SPEAKING SKILL IN 21ST-CENTURY: STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS AND CHALLENGES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

It is crucial to learn a new language, especially English, an international language. Nowadays, having the ability speak English essential for students have. Good speaking skills will help them communicate with each other, their minds, pronounce words correctly, and construct sentences in grammatically correct terms. This research aims analyze students' perception challenges of 21st -century. Twenty-six were taken randomly from three classes enrolled Speaking Informal Interaction Language Education Study Program, Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar. The researchers used open-ended questionnaires semi-structured interviews analyzed using qualitative approach. Recordings documents supplemented instruments. collected data transcribed, classified, interpreted, concluded as findings this study. finding reveals need textbooks support communicative competencies some affecting master skills. Lacking terms vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, self-confidence, lack knowledge, fear making mistakes, low motivation, criticism, shyness, nervousness are face. Based on perceptions challenges, lecturers suggested develop textbook that can accommodate student's needs challenges. Students coursebook build confidence public.
